On the market of e sports, there are many games. But only a few games are appropriate for the framework of the e-sports tournament. A brief introduction of the three popular competitive games will be provided:
1. CS: GO
CS: GO is for “Counter Strip: Global Offensive” computer game matches, which is part of the genre of tactical online shooters. The map is dominated by two teams with five players apiece.
A bomb defusion is the most popular scenario of CS: GO matches: the “terrorists” have to sew and protect a bombing location. The “anti-terrorists,” by defusing the bombs, must stop the terrorists. The terrorists get the point if the bomb is planting and detonating. The teams changed after a number of rounds.
Both teams play 30 rounds in total, the first team to 16 wins. The first team with 2 sets wins the match in a best of three scenarios. The first team with 3 sets wins the match in a best of five settings and progresses to the next round.
2. Dota 2
Dota 2 is played as part of MOBA, Valve’s strategic game. In their gaming mechanics, Dota 2 and League of Legends are quite similar. The aim of Dota 2, too, is to seize the base of the opponent. But Dutch 2 is considerably more tactical and less focused on the single-player owing to the talents of the various available characters. Dota 2 matches comprise an extremely varied game with over a hundred characters to select from.
The teams of five play the game. It takes 15 to 60 minutes to complete around. The scenario of the tournament varies according to the event. A team needs to lose twice in a double knockout system to be removed.
3. LoL
The Legends League is part of the multiplayer online battle arena, which is freely playable (MOBA). League of Legends is an ETS game in which two teams battle on a map structured like an arena and strive to find the base of each other.
Usually, tournaments on 5v5 maps are played. The map is divided into two so that each crew has a primary area. The aim of the game is to conquer the main building of the opponent.
A game normally takes between 15 and 60 minutes. Like in CS: GO, the greatest situations are 1, the best 3, and the best 5. The game creator Riot Games normally organizes LoL sports competitions.
ESL ONE CS: GO
Summer is all about sports in Cologne. CS: GO teams will be competing there at ESL ONE Cologne, the biggest computer and video game event in the world, in addition to the annual Gamescom. In a similar atmosphere to that of the World Cup, 15,000 devotees undertake a trip to Cologne’s LANXESS Arena for their favorite teams.
ESL ONE DOTA 2
Like Counterstrike, the first shooter, DOTA 2 has won a huge audience in the Esports world. In 2017 the event was for the first time held in Hamburg, however, in prior years thousands of Esports enthusiasts came together to applaud the DOTA teams in Frankfurt. In 2017, 10,000 persons came to the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg at this event which was donated a million dollars.
ESL INTEL EXTREM MASTERS (IEM)
In 2007, the IEM is a league in which the top players in the world participate. It’s an event that was first conducted in 2007. At the end of the competition, the pinnacle of the season is the World Championship. The Polish town of Katowice has been the place of choice for the pompous final since 2014.
LEAGUE OF LEGENDS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (LCS)
During the ESL One and ESL Intel Extreme Masters tournaments a number of games are played, but just one game: League of Legends. The game will be organized by Riot Games, the makers of the game. The competition takes place two times a year and is separated into Spring and Summer.
LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Riot Games developers not only organize a MOBA Game League of Legends, but also a World Championship. In 2018 there were 24 worldwide teams participating in the World Championship League of Legends.
In the course of 2011, a reward pool of $100,000 in Sweden was initially available, but in 2017 the prize pool in China increased to $4.5 million.
However, it doesn’t only increase the prize. There is also a growing number of onlookers. In China SK Telecom T1 and Samsung Galaxy have packed almost 80.000 fans for the whole football stadium, fighting for the ultimate title. The event also saw 40 million spectators through live streaming.
THE INTERNATIONAL
The International is the greatest Esports event in the world with prize money of $25.5 million in Dota2. Team OG was the first finisher to get $11.2 million and $63,580 was given for the two last finishers. Even if the game creator Valve themselves organized the event, most prize money came from fans. Their combined buyouts were the bulk of the award.
