The education system is one that has always had an interesting relationship with technology. Every new advance is met with equal parts intrigue and concern that it might interrupt progress. However, there are many things that have already been introduced to the education system that will prove to change it for good. Let’s take a closer look at some of this tech now.
ID Cards
Staff often carry ID cards to identify them as employees of the school. However, more schools are also choosing to phase in ID cards with proximity technology too. A card like the HID Prox is therefore going to be key in helping teachers organise their day.
Many teachers also need to carry around a large bunch of keys that all do different things. This might include but not be limited to unlocking their own classrooms, the department base, and any supply cupboards. Having to carry both their keys and an ID card immediately makes for one too many things that they need to make sure they have. Replacing everything with a contactless card that serves as both a key and identification is one cost-effective option that many schools are now choosing to opt for.
Student Computers
We are moving to a world that is slowly become more and more digitised. While some schools are still using workbooks and pens, others are slowly moving towards an electronic classroom. They issue students with a Chromebook or some other small but powerful laptop that they can use in a variety of different classes.
This helps to cut down on the paper used by schools and can be cheaper for departments in the long-term. It also helps to teach students responsibility as they now have these devices to care for if they want to successfully complete their classes.
Cloud Support
Many schools are beginning to make sure of cloud systems for administering and collecting homework. These are useful as they allow a teacher to access all of the class’s work in one easy place. With more schools now offering computers and devices for pupils, it is important that a teacher has one place where they can collate projects and assignments.
On top of this, cloud support allows teachers to update pupils from home and in other locations. Therefore, if a pupil has health issues that means they might not be able to go into school but they want to continue their studies from home they will be able to. This can be crucial in preventing pupils from falling behind.
Technology and education go hand-in-hand, no matter what the naysayers might think. There are so many ways new technology is benefiting our students at all stages in their education. Who knows what education in even ten years might look like? This is one of the areas where we can see technology making a tangible difference in our world and it is always incredibly interesting to follow their development and the changes that they are bringing.
